Hardly pointless. The great thing about humans is our capacity for abstract thought, and of course language. Unicorns and god don't exist as such, but as concepts and ideas they certainly do.

'A good point well made,' someone wrote earlier.
I think someone allowed you out of your corner long before you were ready for the journey.
A 'day' is a period of time ~ which does not exist, but thus we have 'the Calendar' (which does exist).
We arbitrarily agree that time / days do exist just to, in many respects, make life easier for us. Weeks and Months and Seasons likewise. These and other things are spans of what we call time, and sometimes which are sometimes 'marked' by observable changes, that we utilise in various ways. But they are all intangibles given names to label them by the regular setting and rising of what we call the Sun, or Sol.
These are all intangibles that for one reason or another, we need.
Unicorns or fairies or happiness do not exist only because you have not seen and thus have no tangible 'proof' of them. But then by the same token, you'd never be pushed over by the wind, because you cannot see it. Or you'd never feel moved by music, or love or some other intangible 'emotion' ~ because you had not seen them.
So, by the same token, to a deaf person people cannot communicate via speech because there was no proof to him or her that sound exists! To the blind person, colours or visual beauty is a myth because....
To the mindless, things do not exist because they have no tangible proof of them ~ without qualifications as to what qualifies as this 'Proof' needed.
Oh. The Meaning of life is 'Friction.'
Without friction, there is no Life ~ no fire ~ no light ~ no sound ~ no sense of touch and, sex would be a whole lot less pleasurable. But then, to you! ...Well, it don't compute.
Now go stand back in the corner.
Sash.

Some of us EXPERIENCE happiness so that is not a meaningless word.
Why should people not also have the freedom to dream imaginately? Unicorns, fairies, men in space, golden fleeces....of course they do not exist. But they can well be symbolic of things that do (or should) Let your hopes and dreams soar.....and may Aslan go with you!!

We need words for things that don't exist in order to help explain things that happen, or do exist.
For example, all intelligent humans know for a fact that entities such as God, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and ghosts etc. not only don't exist but cannot exist in reality.
Same argument goes for the concept of infinity (except that's not an entity).
But lots of people need or use them in order to explain certain actions, occurences and 'things' that would otherwise be inexplicable.
Or, in the case of God, to help control the behaviour, education and moral values of other people in your community.

Happiness is a warm gun, getting way with murder and then writing a book about the murder just ask O.J. now hes a happy man.
Unicorns did exist thats why theres a name for it, theres no name for things that never existed because we don't know they exist such as hmmmm...... I don't know 'cos they never existed see.
