To be fair, I think Spurs have been fairly disappointing so far this term domestically - though their UEFA Cup form has been fantastic. I think, on paper, the squad has improved in some areas- Lennon has come of age, Berbatov is a great signing, and Chimbonda has been solid at right-back. In other areas, though, I think Spurs have not improved. I actually believe selling Andy Reid was a bad idea - true, he might not be of the calibre to play for Spurs, but at least Andy Reid could give you pace and decent crosses from the left. This year, I think Spurs' formation is a bit unbalanced due to the lack of a true left winger. Malbranque is a decent player, but I don't believe he's a pure left winger. Until Spurs address that problem, I think they'll have problems down the left side. I also am undecided as to whether Assou-Ekotto is a good signing or not. The lad has shown glimpses of his ability, but he's not done anything to make me sit up and take notice. At times, I think Lee Young-Pyo is better. Either way, a weakness for Spurs. Lastly, I don't think Spurs have recovered from selling Michael Carrick. Although Martin Jol got a handsome amount of $ for Carrick, I think Spurs have yet to develop a settled central midfield that can dominate. At the moment, I see neither Davids, Zokora, or Huddlestone as being a capable replacement for Carrick - especially since one of Carrick's best traits was his ability to sit in midfield and disrupt opposition attacks by breaking up passes.
Overall, I think Spurs have a squad that can go deep in the UEFA Cup - maybe last 8 or semifinals. Domestically, I think it's going to be a disappointment compared to last year. I think they'll be hovering around the UEFA cup places, but probably not in the area to challenge for a CL spot.
