Mid 90's rock tune i can't get out of my head.?

Ok, I can't get this song out of my head, the problem is I don't know the lyrics to it nor do I know who performed it or even the song title. But I've seen people in here who are very good at deciphering "dum de dah dum" into the actual song, so here goes. It's a hard rock kind of song that was popular around 95-96 i think. I can only remember the guitar riff that seemed to be constant throughout the song... So here goes...

Ok, This was played on one of the lower strings of a lead guitar. When you sing the long "Dowww" you fade down an octave then go up an octave for the following "Dah" and then alternate up and down to the end of the line. The / means go up an octave & the \ means go down an octave. After this riff is played a few times the singer comes in & starts singing the song following the same pitch as the guitar

This reminds me a little of the song by Nudeswirl that Beavis of Beavis and Butthead began singing the lyrics of "Paradise City" by Guns & Roses to in one episode. I don't know the name of the song, but it should be listed on one of their discs at their fan page or at the site of an online retailer that sells music.
