I signed up for a nine month promotion for $72.99/month with Adelphia. I was charged an extra $35.00 on my next bill when Comcast took over. I've talked to nine representatives. Three of which said my bill would be corrected. Last night I talked to someone who said it wouldn't be. I cancelled my service. Today I talked to a rep who said that I should have been informed that my promotion wouldn't have transferred over. I was never told or I would have never signed up period. I'm going to the local store today to complain not that it will do any good. I've also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. What can I do so I don't have to pay what these crooks charged me with?

Contact the FCC. This is a good link to how to deal with complaints about cable companies:

Best of luck to you.

If you used a credit card, next time you talk to someone who is refusing you a refund, get their company ID then speak to the credit card company and explain the situation to them. Make it crystal clear you were never informed of the $35 charge when Comcast took over and were not offered the option to decline service.
I was in California for nine months, after a month there I contacted Comcast and told them to turn off my service. I had to give them a bunch of info and in that process I gave them the address I was visiting in California. When I got back to Florida, went to the local office had my service turned back on. Somehow my bill started going to California even though I never told them I lived in California. After about a month and a half I contacted Comcast to ask where my bill was. I was hit with so many fees it wasn't funny. I then had to fight them for the next six months over those same fees. I paid my bill for what I owed, but I refused to pay the late charges the service charges the interest charges etc. Six months of fighting for something they did without my knowledge or approval. Go figure?

Verizon is rolling out a hi-speed internet/cableTV/phone package in my area. I don't know if you have verizon where you live, but it is gaining popularity in the New England area.
Competition, and free market solutions are always best. Remember comcast has a very cozy relationship with gov't. If you think you'll get help from the FCC or any other gov't beaurocrat, think again.

I had the same problem with them. My Brother is a Lawyer and he drafted up a letter and sent it to them registered mail. I received a credit soon after. There's a reason their called Comcrap!!! Their customer service and management sucks.
If you live in a market that has little or no competition, they pretty much do as they please. Your city should also have a cable governing body, send them a complaint also. Good Luck!!

The BBB is a joke and not worth your time to talk too. The FCC and, since it is a city contract, you local city administration.

In situations like this, I have found that a small claims action will get their attention more quickly than an angry voice.
