Crime rates are higher in the inner cities, and since Mark D. wants to stress individual responsibility so much, he is taking away from the factors that lead to crime. That would mean that inner city dwellers are simply worse people than others. As for your question, lack of a quality education may have some effect. However, both crime and lack of education, although simultaneously influencing each other, could be seen better as symptoms of the conditions in inner cities, rather than one thing causing another. I believe the economic conditions in inner cities cause them both.

I know alot of people that do not have an education and do not commit crimes. At one time in America more than half of the males did not finish school as they left to go to work. Crime rate wasn't that bad then. How about the lack of discipline in their lives. At school, and at home. How about a society that finds excuses for their behavior so they can say it's not my fault. How about a society that has all but destroyed the family. Look at the research at how much better children adjust and excel in school and society when raised in a two parent home. Moms have to work, dads that have no sense of responsibility for the children they create. I quit school early, had to go back to get my education. I grew up in a poor rural area. My parents divorced when I was older. I went back got my education, have a family, a job etc..etc.. Sorry but there is a thing called self motivation too.

It certainly doesnt hurt anything to have an education .But there are several factors that affect people .For instance where it used to take one parent working to supporty a family its hard sometimes for both parents having jobs to make ends meet .So whats that say if your a single parent .Our politicians have sold the American job market over seas and all but destroyed the unions for the blue collar workers .Many people that had jobs for American owned factories had to take wage and benefit cuts of several dollars an hour to keep jobs and many times the factories still closed up .What used to be considered high morral values in hour society ,truth ,honor ,loyalty it seems our government has replaced in our society with just the opposite .Is there anything about our government that operates on truth ( I don't think so )From police to the president lying seems acceptable. Honor ,how can you have any when you think nothing of lying .Loyalty, government teaches our kids now to stab your friends or neighbors in the back for financial gain or personal benefit .People who testify against thier friends to get out of trouble are set free in society while those loyal to thier friends are locked away .I remember when loyalty to friends was a quality virtue and tatle tales were taught to be shuned from from 1st grade .But now you can't disipline children either and at that time the principal of the school beat you with a 3 ft long board .I have to ask who benifits from this decline in our society ( government and politicians )while they are destroying our societies morral values ,stealing our freedom and liberty making the rich ,richer and the poor poorer

Wow. Not much I can say to improve on what my near-namesake, mark g, just said.
But, here goes. If you want to base your theories on generalities and stereotypes, then fine, go ahead and blame crime on a lack of sufficient education. But remember, categories of people do not commit crimes. Individuals commit crimes. And our society punishes individuals who commit crimes based on the proof that exists in specific, particular circumstances. And at the time that someone is being tried for a crime, no one is wondering whether or not the accused had gotten a sufficient education. Just look at the case of Leopold and Loeb.
I used to live in the suburbs of St. Louis, MO. And I've never forgotten the controversy that occurred inthe St. Louis area around 17-18 years ago. Prof. Gerald Early was an English professor at St. Louis University. He's black. One day, he and his wife and kids were out in "lily-white" west St. Louis County. His wife was doing some of her laundry at a laundromat there. And while his wife was in the laundromat, he paced around in front of the place, which was in a strip mall. A clerk in a store adjacent to the laundromat saw a black man pacing back and forth and phoned the police. Soon, a police car drove up and an officer got out and questioned Prof. Early about what he was doing. The officer was satisfied that there was nothing suspicious going on and left.
But Prof. Early was nonetheless outraged. He was the victim of racial profiling. Someone suspected that he might be a criminal just because he was a black man pacing around in a strip mall in a white neighborhood. And I don't blame him at all for being outraged. It isn't right. "I want to be seen as an individual," he wrote in an op-ed piece that appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Isn't that what we all want?
If crime rates are higher in "inner city areas," please don't blame it on the insufficiency of "quality education." That is insulting to everyone who did get educated in the inner city and yet never commit any crimes whatsoever.

If you think otherwise, you are either being deceived or deceiving yourself. I've been to the inner city plenty of times in Philly. Seeing is believing.

Sure .... I live near the "D" as in Detroit. 85% of the residents don't have a HS diploma or GED. That's a lot of stupid people with not many options other than crime. Want to move there?

Yes! Unfortunately so. Is not all the great people. It is our society. Our standards. All revolves around money. And money is the downfall of us!
