I don't think so but..I don't want to become a member of the EU, as a Turk.

We're fed up with the lies..

And I don't want east too..They are so religious.

Turkey isn't a Europen country but it isn't a eastern country..We have our own culture and life style. And we are happy for this (or I'm happy for this).

I think Turkey will be a member of the EU some day. But I also think that both Turkey and the EU have to go a certain way until this can happen.

Turkey, to start with, has to embrace human rights in word and action. It has to accept separation of powers, and separation of politics and religion. It has to accept minority's rights and freedom of speech (as in "freedom of opinion about Armenian history", and so on). All these are standards in the European Union which cannot be diminuished.

The EU, on the other hand, needs a feasible constitution before it can add more members at all. At the moment, one EU member can block the rest with his veto. And that's what happens at the moment. The Turkish Prime Minister has a point: Cyprus is blocking the negotiation with Turkey at the moment. After the Greek Cyprus refused to unite with the Turkish Cyprus, Northern (Turkish) Cyprus must be acknowledged as a country of its own by the EU, and accepted as trade partner.

I really hope that these obstacles will be overcome one day and Turkey will become an EU member. Here in Germany, we have so many Turks already and most of them are integrating fine in our society. There are some tendencies to form a separate cultural group, though, and keeping Turkey out of the EU would increase this feeling of separation.

There is a discrepancy between the strategic planning people in EU and the face the politicians show to their general public. The strategists are aware that Turkey is a must-have for a farseeing, effective and strong would-be-empire. But the politicians opt to butter up the racist feelings of the general public for easy votes. Their negative attitudes are seen here as hypocrisy and racism. Turkish people used to respect the universal values that Europe in general advocated, but as negotiations further, we begin to see that Europe's universal ideals are just that: ideals, not facts.

So. I think Turkey will be a member after a long and bitter process, but I am not so sure that the European Union Turkey enters will be the European Union that it wanted to enter.

And, citizens of the current members have to understand that they are already living with millions of Muslims right now, and most of those come from not-so-modern Muslim societies. And they reject a modern Muslim society. Well, how logical!

Do you know what amazes me most? That racism against Turks have become so acceptable in Europe's political arena. I thought racism was a big no-no in modern societies. I was soooo wrong, wasn't I?

Turkey is not sophisticated enough, does not have the civilised values to become a part of the EU.

They are a bunch of muslim village peasants. I mean c'mon, look at how they were protesting at the pope's arrival. Whenever that stupid aga khan visits foreign countries, do people protest like that.

The only thing the scatty, smelly, ugly turks did was to show that they are a goup of narrow minded, unsophisticated muslim fools.

oh that's easy...

it's probably got to do with the multiple genocides and the ethnic cleansing (ie, 1954 september riots in constantinople/istanbul), and more recently against the kurds...and weekly incursions by the military into sovereign neighbours territory...and their constant violations of human rights that has something to do with it...

never say never and turkey is not european...and the promises have more to do with another 69,000,000 potential customers as citizens in their community rather than anything else...

but i would say no to the near future...possibly yes in the not too distant...within 20 years...

contained in the question, certain 'fundamentals' were pushed to heritage. it really is confusing. ecu is for Europe & Europeans. Albania geographically is 100% Europe; extra ecu than Georgia on Eurasian border. On that ability it would want to declare club. Turkey has a foothold in Europe, so that they experience it really is adequate reason to ask for club. Underlying deeper reason is to share the prosperity of Europe. throughout the time of Dardenelles, Bosporus & Sea of Marmara 'Istanbul' is yet a fig-leaf of its Europeanness. ninety 9% of Turkey's geographical section is in Asia extending as a lot as about four hundred miles from Tehran & three hundred miles from Baghdad. in spite of its inner cultural & ethnical differences, Europe is a unmarried cultural/ethnic area the position Islam (secular or otherwise) is a minority crew. a mundane Moslem remains a Moslem yet no longer a ecu. although you have not touched, I favor to usher in 'Bosnia-Herzegovina' into the image. although Moslems are decrease than 0.5 (a million/3), outflanked by Serbs (a million/4) & Croats (a million/5) they ought to save up a dynamic equilibrium no matter if or not they be referred to as Moslem or no longer & won't be able to wish to be admitted into ecu. 'Secular' criterion is critical yet no longer adequate subject. Sufficiency subject is Europeanness. it isn't impressive to lie to by the pink rag of Secularity. If it truly is the criterion, Philippines or Timor l'este can develop right into a ecu Union member (throwing to winds the Europeanness)! inspite of the actuality that would want to correctly be the different factors Europeans have a reliable geographical experience compared to Asians. inspite of such patent counter-arguments, why Turkey is so emboldened to call for it? the answer lies contained in the Turkish targeted visitor workers spread throughout Western Europe in large numbers. those won't be able to be thrown out, nor be disbursed with with out hurting the monetary gadget seriously (in Germany that has the most important Turkish emigre). one way or the different it really is made to seem as although the answer lies in making Turkey ecu. yet another excuse is NATO, that has no concerning ecu image. one way or the different Turkey occurs to be the purely usa it truly is ethnic non-ecu usa compared to different NATO ones (united states & Canada lined). Even in united states it truly is touted for multi-ethnicity, the dominant 'ethos' and cultural moorings are firmly of their ecu forebears.
