When the Old Age pension was 1st introduced and the age set at 65, the average life expectancy of a man was 67, we now live much longer the life expectancy of a man is now 72, so a Pensioner is drawing the pension more than 3 times as long as when it was first introduced. The money is just not there anymore, The Country's population is growing old, and it will be to much of a tax burden on those still working to carry on giving pensions to those of 65, 68 is just the start, it will go up to 70 within the next 20 years./

you are right. The simple maths is that with an ageing population and collapsing pension funds you need to pay into the state fund for longer to get a pension. What the govt. won't do is subsidise the state pension too expensive when you have wars to pay for or employers pay more NI contribution which they will say they can't afford to.
Bottom line is to retire at 65 on your own pension at a reasonable income you probably need £500,000 (todays money) in a reasonably safe fund to do it. So try paying £12,500 a year to a pension for 40 years only you can't because to 17.5% maximum contribution I believe

That is so true, a politician, is a politician for his or her own self gain, they don't give a sh*t about the poor hard working sod, who toils all his life, pay NI, all his life, tax, all his life, they say its because people are living longer, no my Friend, they want you to keep on working yourself to death, so that they don't have to pay a pension.

Who put the GREAT in Britain anyway...........it is so not!!!
You have totally nailed it on the head...the 'haves' and the 'have nots'
Us NORMAL people suffer because of the Government, I'd like to see Blair live on what we do. What a 'rip off' country Britain has become......compare it now to our Grandparents or Great Gandparents days. Who spoilt our country?
