buy two convex lens, both should have different focal lengths and it is advisable that you should buy lenses of high focal lengths. and a tube is also required.the length of the tube should be equal to the sum of the focal lengths of the two lenses.
Now, make the bigger lens as the eyepiece and the smaller one as objective. your telescope is ready to wander through the universe.

Hi, I agree with the guy who said to buy one. I made two dobsonian and think back " I wish I just bought one". Granted it is bigger and cost less money. I built a 14" dobsonian but the mirror alone was a few hundred and the time spent was enourmous. I probably spent $1500 for the finished product. Where, you can buy a basic dobsonian... say a 12" dobosnion from Orion telescopes for $800-900 bucks and have a really great scope. With no time spent building one. If you check Craigslist or Ebay I bet you could find a use one cheap!

it's not worth it... buy one

you grind some glass into lenses and then stick them in the ends of a tube. start by practising grinding some glass. then decide if you really need to make a telescope.
