That all living organisms (known to date) come from one ancestor (somewhat of a pre-cell)

For me, there are two possible answers for this:

1. All known organisms are derived from one original organism and have inherited the genetic code.
Or:
2. Maybe the genetic code developed in several places, maybe even different genetic codes developed, but only one kind of genetic code was successful over time and survived until today.

Additionally, I think there MAY be other kinds of genetic code, IF there is life or something similar on other planets. But I also think that it is possible that life exists only once in the universe, and the genetic code is absolutely unique.

Actually, there are a few variants, ... but...
the theorized significance is that all extant life descended from a common ancestral organism.

the genetic code is not 100% consistant between all organisms.

Regardless, it helps to demonstrate either a common origin for all life, or an intelligent designer who ran out of ideas :P
