You can experience pain during ovulation, it is fairly normal and is called mittelschmerz. It can be anywhere from a momentary twinge to a few days of crampy feeling.
You should not normally have it on the same side all the time. In a normal cycle, supposedly the ovary that releases the egg tends to switch.
Some women experience multiple luteal cysts (a luteal cyst is normal and is where the matured egg is stored until/at release) and have cystic ovaries.
If this is a problem for you, the pain, go see your OB/GYN, have a PCOS blood panel done. If nothing is found, an ultra sound is in order. It can take some time to get a normal or a diagnosis but you are talking about your fertility and it is WORTH it.
I have below a link for mittelschmerz, PCOS and a good description of the menstrual cycle for you...in that order LOL

you mean like period pain? That's normal. If it's at one side more than the other though, go get it checked out as it could be something else.
