It depends on which operating system you are using. I'm not sure if the way I do it will work for you. I am running Windows XP.
When you download a new font, a box pops up on your screen asking you where you'd like to save that font. Click on BROWSE and find WINDOWS. Click on WINDOWS then Click on the FONT folder. Save it there. That is the folder that has all of the fonts for your computer.
If that doesn't work for you...the other easy way to do it is:
Save the font to your desktop.
Then click MY COMPUTER
Click your C DRIVE
Click WINDOWS
Click FONTS
Now drag the new font from your desktop and drop it into the FONTS folder.
Hope this makes sense to you. There may be more intelligent ways to do it...this is just My Way!
Be careful downloading too many fonts though. You should remove any that you have downloaded and don't use because these downloaded fonts slow your computer down.
DON'T REMOVE ANY DEFAULT FONTS!!!
I hate most of them and never use them but you can't remove them because Windows system uses them. If they aren't there, you will see nothing but gibberish instead of words.

On your computer, search for C:/WINDOWS/fonts, and a full list of every single font you have is there. If the fonts you downloaded arent there, send them to this folder. right click the font you want to use, click "properties", and where is says "opens with.." click CHANGE, and then select the program you want to use the font with.

Its really simple. Copy the fonts you downloaded into the Fonts folder, which should be C:/Windows/Fonts. Paste the fonts here and it will appear in the office font list.

I think you just need to save a short cut to your desktop of the font, then I am pretty sure you just drag it the fonts when you have MS open. Im not positive though. It's been a while.

Download any font manager from download.com, use free ones if budget doesn't allow so.
Open fonts through those and use them.
I you want to use these fonts in office applications etc, copy and paste these in the directory within their fonts folder.
