yes you will be intilted to the grant as long as your getting some sort of benifit. the best thing to do is just get the form and read through it.
im sure the benifit, you have to be recievin is, job seekers, income surrport or a higher rate of child tax credit. if your not gettin one of those at the moment then you will not be able o apply for the grant till after, you have had your baby and your recieveing the higher rate of child tax credit. also you can only claim the sure start grant 11 weeks before your due date and 11 weeks after the birth of your baby.

No.

You only get Sure Start Grant if:

a) You get Income Support or

b) You get Jobseekers Allowance or

c) You get Working Tax Credit WITH A SEVERE DISABILITY ELEMENT ADDED (just WTC on its own isn't enough) or

d) You get Child Tax Credit AT A HIGHER RATE THAN THE FAMILY ELEMENT. (Just CTC on its own isn't enough).

We are on very very low wage and get WTC and I get £108 Maternity Allowance a week, but don't have a "severe disability element" to our WTC so were refused a grant.

We hope to get CTC after baby is born and as we are likely to get it at "Higher than the family element" we hope we'll get the Sure Start Grant then.
