IQ tests can provide information as it pertains to how individuals process information. IQ tests are designed to measure a number of different cognitive abilities. It is important to note that at times too much emphasis is placed on an IQ score. Intelligence tests were designed to measure various aspects of cognition to determine an individuals strengths and weaknesses. Most intelligence tests will provide a measure of an individuals auditory and visual processing (verbal reasoning and spatial discrimination) as well as measures of how quickly and efficiently one processes information. IQ tests usually include a measure of memory as well. The question should not be "Is the individual intelligent," rather "How is the individual intelligent." By this I mean how does the individual learn. Is the individual capable of learning when information is presented verbally or do they learn better when provided with "hands-on" activities. There are various aspects involved with intelligence and cognitive ability and it is important for an individual to discover how they learn most effectively in order to better utilize their strengths.
