You are worthless.
You aren't good enough.
You deserve to be beat on.
You should never have been born.
Never trust anyone.
Yeah, I had marvelous parents.

From my dad I learned to take life with a pinch of salt and "don't sweat the small stuff". And from my mom I learned to always think positively and and always try again after failure..."never give up".

My mom taught me to no longer get inebriated each night and sleep with any and each guy available. I found out from her errors fairly than following her examples, yet they nevertheless taught me useful classes none the less.

My Dad gives the greatest advices. Before he died he said that in making major decisions in my life, I should think of its effect on my future.
My Mom on the other hand instilled in us the value of sharing your blessings and not expecting anything in return.
Good question. Sometimes I forget to follow their advice. Its like a wake up call. Thanks!

from both: true unconditional love, despite cultural differences in being raised (I'm 1st generation US born from Filipino parents)
from Mom: despite being naive, ultimately life experience proves otherwise
from Dad: never judge a book by its cover. there is always something undiscovered just below the surface (hence still married to my mother for 35 years). he never freaked out when i came home from college with new tattoes & piercings, despite my mother's anguish

My parent taught me to have respect & consideration for other people. That if I put others' needs ahead of my own, I'd be a happier & more satisfied person. "Better to give than to receive" type of thing.
They were right. :)
