I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla...runs like a dream at 124,000 but the battery needs replacing. I've heard that the battery brand is important...I know about CCA's, etc. But what brand should I look for? Mechanics are welcome to chime in...thanks!!!

I sell only one brand at my shops. I have been selling Napa batteries for a while now and when I got the October issue of Consumer Reports I was happy to see that the Napa battery was #1 on the list. I have always liked Delco batteries but they are Rather expensive. I have found that the Napa batteries have been very good and they have a nationwide warranty. So any where you see a Napa sign in the U.S. you can get it changed. With any battery make sure you understand the warranty. Most people think that when they buy a 5 year battery that it is replaced for free within 5 years. That is not the case with any brand. With Napa batteries you can get a couple of different options. I carry 2 different ones. One is a 18 month free replacement and then a 75 month pro-rated. The other is a 2 year free replacement and 84 month pro-rated. If you had the battery for lets say 3 years and it died you would pay around $35 for a brand new one. That is how the pro-ration works on any brand.

Cost VS convenience....

Wal-Mart EverStart is an exide battery and have worked with a 94% customer satisfaction. And should work for you.

If you look at replacement is there a Wal-Mart near you? Is there a Wal-Mart or Sam's club where you travel or take trips? The Warranty on the basic battey is Free replacement for 2 years. If your traveling that will help just incase....

If cost doesn't concern you,,,, use the Optima Battery

Side note 94 Corolla has very little draw on its systems with key off but I recommend every 6 to 8 months to check the battery and if posible put a trickle charger on it til fully charged. Should not take over a couple of hours to bring back up to full charge.

Happy Trails

I have probably said the same sort of thing...well, nothing like that. I'm sure I have said something, though, that makes people want to laugh at my stupidity. I'm not around horse people that much, and it's not like I would be terrible...I live out in the boonies and my neighbors have horses, we are just cow people, so I have never had a horse. Maybe someday.:) Funny, though. And for the record, I love the smell of cows and horses. It's slightly different, but I think it's great!! And, I have heard the bathroom one about both cows and horses. It doesnt bother me, gross, maybe, but it just happens...it's natural, and it usually doesnt smell...Plus, when I was younger I used to pick up dried cow patties all the time and throw them, which is kind of gross, and people said so, but it never really bothered me. It still doesnt, honestly, as long as it is dried. Edit: Although, actually, when I was in Colorado, we went to one of those trail ride things (I know, real cool). But what bothered me is that I have ridden before, just where I live, and there was a family of three there, a mom, dad, and little son. They were from Chicago, and were talking about how they took all kinds of lessons and knew all this stuff. It's mean, but I thought it was funny..the person had to yell at them a lot because they didnt really know very much (I didnt either...but I knew enough, I guess). That's probably a mean story...but for some reason it made me feel a *little* better about myself....I'm terrible, I guess. Haha.

Interstate batteries have taken among the best. I think the Walmart brand is Everstart, of which if you get that one you should keep the receipt because I haven't seen one last the full 5 yrs they are suppost to. Other than interstate you would have to get a Toyota dealership origional battery to get any good quality.

My last battery was from Auto Zone. I forgot their brand name but it lasted 7 years. Since my car won't last another 7 years I replaced the Auto Zone battery with a Wal-Mart one. These are made by Exide. I wouldn't be surprised if all batteries come from a handful of factories and they just put different labels on them.

I have a 93 corolla. Just changed my BOSCH battery 45 Ah after 5 years. I would say that was a good run.

I've had good luck with O'Reilly Auto Parts batteries on Toyota and Nissan cars.
