Our high school did a Hollywood glamour theme. Had a red carpet, glitter decorations, cut-outs of famous old Hollywood stars. I think it was something like "A Red Carpet Event"

My homecoming this year was Clubbing. It was a semi formal events with a 'bouncer' at the door and a huge floor. The decorations were elegant but playful lighting and a lot of silver. It was actually really nice.

The prom this year is A Red Carpet Event so that should be interesting.

A neighbor school went with a Retro Theme. I'm pretty sure it was the 80's.The only downside is the challenge in fitting the theme. I think its smarter to stick to more updated themes in which attire is easily found.

Bad ideas? It's hard to find one. Last year, my school failed miserably at Homecoming. It was a Luau theme but I think all we had was Tiki Torches and a few tropical balloons. It wasn't that great.

But make sure you have a souvenir! Last year, we had Lei's and this year they gave us little photo albums. It's really cute.

Hope I helped!
