That is the thing about the new job, always makes me uncomfortable...People are always so cold on the first days, you never know when to eat and how to act,you feel uneasy...That's why I always like to stay where I am ,because I don't want to go thru that over and over!

Just act profesionally, greet people, the usual good morning, hello I am xxxx I am new xxxx working @ which department.
OR best if you can get your supervisor to introduce you around the office. Go and shake hands with everyone and ask politely to your colleagues next to you if you could join them for lunch and etc.
Happy working.

Professional and approachable. Smart but willing to ask questions. Sense of humor you need to be careful with on the 1st day but can come with time as they get to know you. Good luck

Very inconspicuously.
Be friendly and cheerful, show willingness to learn, but don't be too outgoing (even if you normally are) until you scope out the company dynamics.

Act stupid and lazy so nobody will expect much from you. I see this all the time.
