The truth is the self. If YOU are in this world, the world is real and last for as long as you are around. Look, if you have never been to Iraq, all that you know is heresay, not the truth. It is the same with everything else. Only your presence make them real, you are the truth. As long as you and I are here in this world, it is real- to us, untill we are dead, for you and I then, there is no world.

If you were, would you really want to know?

The idea does have a certain appeal, not unlike the notion of an afterlife. Many humans long for a better world than the one they're in now, one where they can make a difference or just live the best possible life. And indeed, sometimes this world we live in does have a sort of artificiality to it.

There is in fact a better world out there, though it might be too alien for most humans today. And unfortunately, it's stuck in the future, so many of us may not live to see it. But imagine a world where physical needs are a thing of the past. Where neither government nor religion are needed any more, and there are no more problems caused by them. Where the most valued things are knowledge, life experiences, and talent. Where aging and disease have both been conquered. Where people are enlightened enough not to engage in violence, either against individuals or in war. Where the only limits to how far you can go in life is the amount of effort you're willing to put into it. Where life is unimaginably better in every conceivable way.

There are some, out there, working to make such a world a reality. But we are still few in number and mostly powerless. Humans are still for the most part a primitive and barbaric species, poorly educated in the stuff that matters. But if we can throw off the shackles of gov't, religion, and ignorance, then the potential for this species is nearly limitless.

Technologically, we still need to develop mind uploading and utility fog. Once we've done that, it should be possible to set up an Angelnet, which is kind of like a Star Trek holodeck that's all around you, not just in some room.

This is something I think a lot about. How can we tell that something is really REAL? There is always the possibility that we are in a game and even if we think we left the game, we can still be in the game. But I think, we should see it from another prespective! Why should a computer simulated world be 'unreal'? As long as your feelings, your happiness and sadness, the pain and joy you feel are perceived by your soul, than it is real! It doesnt matter to me whether I am in a 3dimensional world or in a computer generated world - I am alive, I exist, I think, I feel! That makes it real and from this point of view every perceived reality is also real.

in the future there will be quantum computers of almost unimaginable power. these will be able to create complete virtual universes populated with sentient sub programmes that think they are people, the world will be solid and real for them. there could be hundreds or thousands of these computers. even if there is only 10 of these computers running this programme then the odds are 10 to 1 against this being reality.spooky!

Yeah. There's more than meets the eye. But, why would you really want to know? It isn't like taking a blue or a red pill. This a good reality. Stick with this reality. Get married, breed, be happy and grow a garden.

OOhh, that would be like....Part 5!! Maybe we're all living in a sequel of sequels and every chapter is one individual's life!
Our Matrix would be like 'society', as we know it, living in a fantasy of illusions and dreams, when in reality, well...we all actually wake up to living the "Brady Bunch" life (which would actually be REAL TV in our real world)...
Can you imagine???? AAaaaaghhh!!..It's like living a dream, and waking up to a nightmare we call reality!!
HMmm..that actually happened, I think!

MUUuuaahhh haaaaa haaaaaaa!!

(((POOF!!))) ****and now you're awake.....

Be careful what you wish for.

Nick Bostrom, of Oxford University, has taken this seriously enough to get it published in the peer-reviewed Philosophical Quarterly and this has grown into quite a lot of solid discussion on the concepts involved. (URL given)

How would your behaviour change if you thought you were part of a computer simulation?

(Personally I have always preferred eXistenZ)

As long as there is no evidence, avoid running into a tree. There is a tree.

Try this experiment, try to have a sexual intercourse and one second before you orgasm loudly say "Huh..I don't exist". If you orgasmed then you exist, if not, then we're in the matrix.
