Watch out though. an ipod can play mp3's but it will trick you and automatically converts the songs to the apples version of an mp3: m4a or something like that. then you need i tunes to put the song on the ipod. im sure there are ways around that or converters to keep it an mp3 or put it back to an mp3, but thoes m4a are a special format that can only be played by a apple product or with i tunes. so if your really into mp3's get a nice $150+ dollar with alot of memory, and a screen, mp3 player that you can use as a thumb drive too. so that way you can mod it, to watch videos and do al kind of tricks with it. if you dont go either way or like the ipod setup. then the ipod migh be the best bang for your $ you can keep all your songs on it and not have to worry.
if you own a pc (windows) go with a a non ipod setup.
***damn windows and mac they just cant make thing even a little compatible with each other.

The generic brand iPod refers to a class of portable digital audio players designed and marketed by Apple Computer. (Hewlett-Packard also markets the product under the name Apple iPod + HP.) Devices in the iPod family offer a simple user interface designed around a central scroll wheel. Most iPod models store media on a built-in hard drive, while a lower-end model, iPod shuffle, relies on flash memory
MP3 players are associated with downloading music from the internet. The device is smaller than a personal CD player so are very portable. You will need a computer to download songs, but you don't necessarily need the internet. MP3 is just the name of a type of computer file
