I will have a trip to Las Vegas in the first week of January. It's a big thing for me becuse I am not American and I do not know when I will be able to go there one more time. That's why is it so important for me to make a nice trip.

And I have some questions, may be stupid, but I ask you to answer them or at least part of them. I made some research but I still have something to ask :) Thanks for your help.

1. Is traffic on Strip and Fremont terrible and when? In Europe we do not drive to much and I am worry a little bit about it. I hope I will be able to drive there. For example LA traffic for me is difficult.

2. Is weather in January very cold (day and night)?

3. Is food expensive in LV? Can I eat something good for reasonable money or it is expensive in LV? I noticed that hotels have fast-food cafe like McDonalds etc. Do they have an usual price for fast food?

4. What 3 things I must see and what I should avoid?

5. I want to see Grand Canyon and some other places in AZ. Is it a problem to reach these places? I know it is a winter and probably road can be close sometimes. Is it a problem?

1) Traffic on the strip is not bad at all.

2) January days can be from 50-70 degrees celsius. Nights can be much cooler.

3) Eating is cheap in Las Vegas. Every casino advertises a buffet. It's cheap compared to other places. Hotels there for some reason keep food prices low to attract business.

4) Lots of new hotels with themes. The Venetian (Old Venice), The Luxor (pyramids).

5) The Hoover Dam is nice to see. It's very close to Las Vegas. Skywalk just opened on the Grand Canyon. It is a glass bridge that extends partway into the canyon so visitors can see all around. Winter weather is usually fine for driving in Arizona. It's a desert; it snows occassionally - mainly at high elevations. Winter is the rainy season, but it only rains a couple of times.

Well first off someone said 50-70c in January. That would equate to 122-158 f. WRONG. More like 10c which is 50f.

Traffic on the strip is to be avoided. I am a Chicago guy and drive in significant traffic every day. Do not drive in Vegas, much less the strip. Take cabs or buses.

Food: It depends on what is expensive to you. Very little is "cheap" when it comes to food. You can find reasonable to first class, expensive meals. You will find something in your budget range. Fast food places are in the usual big city range.

I have driven to the Grand Canyon in the summer. Not sure about your time frame. GC is a good 5 hour drive plus.

IMHO you should see Hoover Dam (if that is of interest), the top of the Rio, Bellagio Fountains, Top of Stratosphere, and the inside of all the strip hotels that you can get to. Try to see dueling pianos at NYNY or Harrahs. Forum shops at Caesars. Do see a show or 2.

Have a great trip!

1. I would personally not drive on the strip. If you want to rent a car to visit other places off the strip then that might be a good idea, but I think it is easier to walk anywhere you want to go on the strip, or take the monorail which will bring you up and down the strip and it is located in several hotels. You can take a cab or bus down to Fremont street and it won't cost you that much.

2. Daytime weather is nice, but it will get chilly at night. You probably won't need a heavy winter coat, but bring a sweatshirt at the minimum.

3. Food can be pricey depending on where you eat. You can find plenty of cheap restaurants and fast food places located inside the hotels. Two restaurants that we liked that weren't expensive were The Rainforest Cafe (in MGM) and Gonzalez y Gonzalez (in NYNY). I think the McDonalds in the restaurants are a tiney bit more expensive than usual, but not a lot.

4. Three things to see: 1) Comedy Stop at the Tropicana: Its only $20 per person and includes a drink. This is probably one of the cheapest shows on the strip and its really fun. 2) The water/light show at the Bellagio: Free and lots of fun to watch! 3) The lions in the MGM Grand. Real lions! (also free) AVOID: They are on every corner so they are hard to avoid, but the men with neon shirts that say "Girls!! XXX" they will hand out "catalogs" to everyone who walks by.

5. I don't think you will have a problem seeing the Grand Canyon. There are tours that take a day trip out there, but if you are renting a car then you should be able to drive yourself out there without a problem. I don't want to talk you out of renting a car, but you might want to compare the cost of renting a car for however many days you are going to be there and how much it would cost you to go on a bus tour, ride the monorail, etc. I only mention this because you said you were nervous about driving. My husband and I have been there twice before and are going back in January and have never had a car with us. We have always managed to get where we want to go and didn't have to spend a lot of money.

MOST IMPORTANT: Have a great time!!!

You don't say where you're coming from - but I'm exicted that you have this trip! I hope you enjoy it very much!

The traffic is not horrible - except New Years in January.
The weather is do-able. Bring a jacket or sweat shirt.
I'd recommend if you are gambling - ask for a comp for meals. They usually will give them - that then gives you a free meal with that ticket. Otherwise, though - food is still not expensive.
3 things to see & do ..... The casinos themselves provide things to see & do - shows are all good.

Be sure to watch the water shows at the Baliego Hotel - free.
Someone mentioned Hoover Dam - I'd certainly go there. And you are correct that you should see the Grand Canyon. You can probably book a tour from Las Vegas & go by bus very cheaply as well.

Things to avoid? The obvious - only gamble with what you can afford to lose.

Enjoy your trip!

1. Traffic can get bad on the weekends at night, so be careful.
2. January can be a little cold, not so bad during day, but cold at night.
3. Food here can be cheap and exspensive, buffets are nice, some are pricey if they have seafood. Fast food is basically cheap.
4. Fremont street is o.k. ,the strip is much better, Fremont has a lot more bums and is a little trashy. If you like shopping, go to the Forum shops in Ceasers Palace.

the traffic is terrible only if you make it...i used to be afraid to drive over there and in big cities, as long as you go along with however everyone else is driving, you'll be fine...just don't panic and keep your eyes open at all times...it's not the way you drive, it's the way other people do...the weather in January in Las Vegas is not very cold at all, comparing to Europe..the lowest temps in Las Vegas (especially now that we're having global warming) is around 50 degrees...that's not very cold actually..during the day, it's really nice..the food there can be expensive, but if you go to the right places, you'll find a heck of a bargain! For example, go to circus circus, they have really cheap and good tasting food there...ask around, there's many people that tour Vegas, ask a shop employee..McDonalds and other fast food places are all over the place, you'll find one on the drop of a dime! You've gotta see the shows there, there's also many billiards tournaments that go on there, if you like the sport, magic shows and music shows are awesome, take lots and lots of pictures...go gambling if u want, but please avoid the temptation of overspending..it's fun playing the slots, but it can overwhelm you and before you know it, you'll be broke...so know your limit and stick to it...the Grand Canyon is really nice to see, Arizona is still pretty warm at this time of the year, they hardly ever get any snow...Arizona is in the southeast corner of Nevada, so you may get the chance to go...good luck and best wishes...hope all goes well with your visit here :)

Don't rent a car in Las Vegas. You will spend lots of money on parking and lots of time sitting in traffic. Cabs and public transit is quicker and cheaper. Plus, most of us just walk up and down the strip. Its a great way to see all the great hotels.
January will be cool during the day and cold at night. Its always best to dress in layers and please bring a jacket.
Las Vegas has gourmet restaurants, but also has inexpensive meals. There are buffets everywhere as well as fast-food. The shopping malls also have lots of food courts for more variety
You must see one of the Cirque du Soliel shows ("O" show at Bellagio is #1) Also, the Dancing waters in front of Bellagio are a huge attraction and its FREE
There are Bus trips and helicopter rides to the Grand Canyon.
Call you hotel in advance and ask for some info. form the hotel concierge !!
Enjoy and have a safe trip !!!
(ps the best hotels are The Wynn, Four Seasons, Bellagio and Caesars Palace)

At 14 all you may want to be to at least one yet another is healthier buds. celebrate with your friendship. no matter if it really is meant to be better, it is going to stand the try of time and and the separation in case you bypass to diverse colleges.
