The question of the ages!! I guess it all comes down on how comfortable you are on being yourself. It reminds me of Weird Al Yankovic after releasing his 'White and Nerdy' album and it really tied me in knots laughing. And it's cool considering that I'm not that fond of rap or hip-hop music.
So the popular kids stand out than the nerds, unless you dress like the stereotyped nerd from the comics. It's all about being heard at this point, if not the direct approach, then the indirect one. If the popular kids make use of their looks and/or influence as their strength, then go for something that you are really good at and work on it.

I'm actually both a nerd and a popular kid. It's much better being who you are, whether you're a dork, a loser, a jock, a teacher's pet, a dweeb, a jerk, a bully, a nerd, a popular kid, a goth, a dummy, a wierdo, a freak, or just plain NORMAL.

Nope. And I'm not saying that because I'm a nerd or something. I hang out with everyone... well, I got kicked out of school (bad grades) but I wasn't a nerd.
I went to a private school too, so I don't know what's it like to be with really mean people.

No, just more popular!(But only to certain people). The "better" people are those that care about others and their feelings, not the ones that worry about being seen with the "right" people.
