Knucklehead-armchair sports fans can say he is misunderstood all they like. The fact is though, when he does recruiting now he is handicapped by his own reputation. The kids have a choice of what school they go to, most of them probably don't want to play for a guy who (fairly or unfairly) has a reputation as a maniac. That being said, I think he is a decent man who has some issues with his temper (typical for someone of his generation) and the media does single him out. The fact he makes sure his players hit the books speaks for itself.

Both. He has a great knowledge of the game. He is a great teacher. He is also an arrogant bully. He runs a clean program and cares that his kids graduate. He's always done well with players that usually don't go on to the pros. Sadly, the anger issues overshadow all of that and rightly so. How often did or have John Wooden, Dean Smith, or Coach K lose their minds or become abusive during press conferences? How often did they need to hit/ choke/ grab/ kick players?. It's not a respect issue; his players idolize him. He's just an angry man who won't play if it's not by his rules. A classic bully.

Genius, Knight has one of the best basketball minds in college today. He hasn't stuck around all these years for nothing. Had all those wins, made good players into great players and sent them to the NBA. Coaching is a very hard and stressful job. It can make you want to do alot more ridiculous things than he's done. And Bobby has done a pretty good job of restraining himself.

Both. I'm actually from Indiana, so I've watched Bobby Knight for years now. I think he is crazy as hell but his win total puts him up there with the greatest college coaches of all times.

Bob Knight has one of the best minds basketball has ever seen. He teaches a little different than most, and expects discipline always. You never see one of his players in trouble with the law, because that kid would not be on his team anymore. I would not hesitate to send one of my kids to play for him.
