The vast majority of politicians are admirably suited to running a variety of small businesses. Schools in sophistry for example, a little out of fashion outside of Plato's Athens admittedly. Or a more contemporary example; John Prescott could breed pugs, thoough one might have difficulty telling businessman and merchandice apart. The list goes on.

Yes, running a small business in the UK is hard work, but with decent policies and procedures in place, and a dedication to working long hours you can do it - most politicians in the UK work very long hours for about 50 weeks of the year, so they would be ideal.

Complying with all the laws is a doddle, I've even set a Carbon Neutral target, so that each year my company will reduce it's carbon foot-print by 10% and recycle 20% more waste, we've already surpassed these targets for 2006, compared to 2005.

NO. My MP is a London taxi driver. He could not organise a booze up in a brewery, let alone manage and direct a business.

MPs and their Euro cousins, make up rules with added red tape to justify their existence and the fat over bloated salaries and expenses we the electorate have to pay for from our small revenues by way of excessive over taxation.

Their greed has already lead to the beginning of the end of democracy in Europe, including UK. Check the turnout results at the next election.

They could not for several reason:
They would promise to deliver but not deliver.
They would set a price then ask for more as they would estimate incorrectly.
They would abolish retirement and make the workers work forever.
They would sack the local staff and import labour at a lower cost from Poland.
They would ban the trade unions.
They would take all the money themselves with expenses.
But what am I saying that is what they are doing with the country!!! UK Ltd

LOL to DukeofMud's comment regarding pugs and merchant. Putting my ore in, a larger problem than all the rules and directives is simply a matter of how popular the political figure may be, in terms of fairness, decency, and honesty.
So, with my additional criteria, few would succeed. Would you buy "Blair's Beauty Creme" and other cosmetics?

I feel that people on benefits are more protected than owners of any small business. It is a long way to success and politicians are busy with international affairs, they are not here at all

UK politicians had businesses of their own run by their dummies.

I very much doubt it. That is why they are "politicians". No qualifications needed, no experience, no common sense, and inflated egos.
