Someone gave me a link on how long to store veggies and it says not to store them in plastic bags. I had put mine in ziplock, I doubt it will hurt me but how am I supposed to store them?

These elegant vegetables are actually the fruit of underground fungi. Try not to store them for long, or you'll lose the delicate flavor.

STEP 1: If the mushrooms are prepackaged, leave them in the packaging.

STEP 2: If the mushrooms are loose, place them in a paper bag and loosely fold the top of the bag over, or place them in a glass container and cover it with a dish towel or moist paper towel. Be sure to allow air circulation.

STEP 3: Store the mushrooms in the refrigerator, but not in the crisper.

STEP 4: Use the mushrooms within a few days, or within a week if they are packaged and unopened.

Tips:

Avoid rinsing or cutting mushrooms before storing them.

Store dried mushrooms in a cool, dark place.

Avoid using mushrooms that have become slimy.

Usually when one buys mushrooms in the supermarket they provide paper bags for the storage of these in the fridge. Plastic makes them sweat and consequently rot much quicker than if in a plain paperbag where the cold but dry air will preserve them for longer.

Mushrooms need air, or they will begin to decompose, on the up side they only need limited air. Poke a few holes in the zip lock and they should keep up to a week.

Bruised mushrooms taste just as good.
