of course they are too young to 'know' what to want

I would recommend colorful playthings/ shapes/ letters
books- and you read to them - ask questions - do you see the kitty - point to the kitty for me
what is the red block? - the blue one?

kids know - and praise them!

my 2 yo daughter is getting the Dora Knows Your name, you can program the doll to say the kid's name and tell stories and sing songs, it can be programed around daily activities like nap and bedtime and meal times.
