That true you can be discovered anywhere now a days...myspace etc...but the best would prolly be NY...the labels are really accessible and you are likely to run into these ppl on the train and on the street...But it takes a lot more then just moving to these areas you have to market yourself.

We are talking modern punk? OK. Well, I'd say either UK punk or LA punk wins in this list. New York has a show about every week. LA looked like they had at least one show every day. I'd say UK wins because London alone has around 2 or 3 punk shows daily. London has Camden town, Mecca of all things punk (although it seems to be getting corporate unfortunately, stinking Weekend Warriors) London has way more squats and anarchists than anywhere else... And London has All Ages Records. To sum it up, I would have to say, never forget Boston or DC.

You don't really need to be in either of those 2 places to get your career jumpstarted. I would recommend setting up a home studio, getting a Taxi membership and promoting the heck out of yourself on the net. It would cost far less than what you will be paying in rent in either of those places. If you get some good feedback and get things rolling, then you might consider moving. But with todays' technology, people can be "discovered" anywhere at any time, not just in NY or LA.

LA, New York, or Nashville ( there's pop and r/b coming out of Nashville now too) A lot of people get a break at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville.
