Most non acidic plants will grow in it but they wont thrive. To get them to thrive just add a bit of LAN or agricultural lime to neutralise the soil. Be careful of too much lime.

Adding a peat based compost without any lime you can also add some sulphate of iron especially formulated for Azaleas and other acidic plants which you can get from any good garden shops.

Some may but I wouldn't recommend it. There are so many different soils on the market and I suggest that you stick to what is needed for your specific plant. Good luck.
