does anyone know any way online that you can run a background check on some friends and family memebers that is cheap or free? i need them for court

Hopefully this is with their permission and knowledge. If so you will have a lot easier time finding the information since you can ask them for identifying info. to put into the search engines.
On the other hand if they are on the OTHER side of the lawsuit and you need to do this research, then you may be able to recover some of the costs with the court's judgment in your favor.
If you know where they lived you might be able to do the check yourself and not use a service. Check out the page listed in resources for more info.

If you want them to know you are doing it, you can get their finger prints and get their "rap sheet". You can find out how to do that at the FBI's website.
