You can change if you, want to, decide to, stick to the decision, ask the right people the right questions about what and how you want to change, Listen to the answers, understand them, apply the principles into your daily life, and keep trying your best even if you fail. If you are vigilant and persistant the changes will eventually happen. It takes work. Make sure you talk with an elder or councellor about the changes you want to make, as sometimes it can be more harmful than good.

Depends on what kind of change you're talking about. There are certain characteristics that statistically speaking, most people do not change, even for their loved ones. It's not that they don't want to; but a lot of our characteristics become more or less "set in stone" as we grow up. So things like: how we prefer our home to be (tidy, lived-in, quiet, noisy), traditions, family (how close you are to them), core values...a lot of those things generally don't change. Those are the things that make us who we are.
Some other things ARE possible to change. Certain things about people tend to change with the times and lessons. Habits come and go. People often go through phases.
So if you could elaborate on what needs changing, it would be easier to say whether it's possible or not.

Can't change the fundamentals, but can smooth out the corners.
Doing such things requires a lot of energy, so if she shows no appreciation at whatever you change in yourself, just dump that selfish brat.

Maybe you can't really change your personality, but you can change what you, the person, do....
If there's something you do that you don't want to do (whether that's worry too much, gossip, lose your temper, whatever) you just tell yourself to stop doing whatever it is.
