sure it is strong enough. Depends on what type of game you like. I recommend Diablo II and if you are willing to risk the addiction Everquest aka EverCrack or Wow world of Warcraft. On the last 2 just turn down some of the graphic settings and the games should run with no problem.

Basically RAM maximises the power of your CPU. The more CPU you have the faster your computer will be. The more RAM you have the more tasks your computer can do at the same time, but you need a fast CPU to use your RAM as effectively as possible. CPU is much more important than RAM. More CPU means your games will run much better. RAM really depends on your CPU, e.g its pointless to have a 4gig RAM if you have a 2.0GHZ CPU as it won't be doing anything to your computers speed. The most important part of a computer for gaming is probably your CPU then Graphics Card followed by RAM.

I'm guessing it's a laptop? Or is it an older desktop? If it's a newer laptop, then what you really need to take into consideration is what graphics card you have (that's really the BIG limiting factor in gaming). If it's a desktop, that detail is still important, it's just that you can change what graphics card you have installed on your desktop. In most cases, if you have a newer laptop, you can play most newer games (with the exception of some very taxing real time fps games). If you have a desktop, consider upgrading your computer to 1gb of ram. THEN try gaming. If you're into RPGs, try WoW or FF11. If you're into fps, try any of the half life mods or unreal. If you like realtime strategy, try the total war series.

The RAM is suffcient for almost all big games . The Speed is also good but may need to be increased for some very Heavy games .
Still , overall good enough for most games like Doom -III ( or IV whatever is latest) , Quake , Close Combat , Half-Life ,Need for Speed etc .

I'll buy it off you if you don't want it! Any game, even with the likes of Guild Wars will play smoothly with your PC as long as you have broadband and a decent video card with at least 64 to 128 megs of video RAM.

you forgot to tell what is you videocard. Thats the most important part to play games. As for 1.7Ghz it is outdated, not good for any modern games even if you have a very good videocard, unless you like playing in low screen resolution modes.

You can play almost all strategy games. I don't think you can play higher end games.
