Let me first clear the distinction between Astronomer and Astronaut.
If you want to study stars,it is astronomy.
Possible Paths: BSc.(PCM)-->MSc(Physics)-->Phd(Astrophysics/Astronomy)
If you want to make missiles, study about dynamics of space station (like kalpana chawla), then go for aeronautics.
Possible Paths: BE/B.Tech. ( Aeronautical/Mechanical) --> M.Tech. ( Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering)

Attend a school with a good physics or astronomy department and be prepared to work hard! Although it is hard to become an astronomer, most who get graduate degrees in the field are employed (fewer than 2% are unemployed) and most feel that their graduate education prepared them well for their current job.
