I run my Golf TDI on biodiesel. No modifications were necessary.

The car is a little hard to start when it's cold outside, as biodiesel tends to thicken at low temperatures. If you live in a cold climate, you should probably use a blend of biodiesel and regular diesel, which lowers the viscosity. Biodiesel is typically sold as B100 (100% pure), B80 (80% biodiesel, 20% regular) and so on.

Now, if you plan on running your car on straight vegetable oil, it will require modifications. Any unmodified diesel will run on biodiesel, however.

You will need to change your fuel filter if you've run on regular diesel and have switched to biodiesel. The reason is that regular diesel is very dirty in this country, and biodiesel acts like a detergent, loosening all the crap out of your engine and clogging the filter. Change your filter a few thousand miles after switching, and after that just change it as recommended.

Here's the one site you need to check out:

Biodiesel ... Is made of leftovers in most cases.. No changes will need to be made to your engine if the grade of fuel is as good as what you get at your local truck stop...

If you are using corn biodiesel it should be even cleaner...

One thing I will recommend, know where the product is being made and CARRY 2 spare fuel filters all the time...

If you notice that your exhaust is getting darker after using it you might have to thin the mix...

Happy Trails...
