It's a possibility - it would have to be a lucky kick though - I reckon he'd only get one in before his throat was ripped out

Yes, if it is able to get in a good kick... that is why cougars jump from above and behind when attacking pray that size. once they are on the back there is little chance of the pray surviving... mules can also kill a black bear. I have talked to an old sheep herder who had a couple mules kill a black bear that tried to raid his camp. litteraly stomped the stuffing out of him...

Well, any animal that feels threatened can feasibly kill anything. So yes it is possible.
There is a story floating around on the internet about a Mule killing a "Cat", http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/mulelion.asp
However its not entirely true, while the Mule did attack the Cougar, he didn't attack it till after it was shot and close to dead.

Unlikely, but possible. If the mule happened to kick the cougar in the head, that could prolly kill it.
But 99.9% of the time the cougars gonna sneak up on the mule and gank his @$$. (No pun intended)

Yes.......with a solid back kick that connects with the head of the pursuing cougar!
A mule's kick is as deadly as that of a Mike tyson full force punch on an..........over-ripe watermelon!

ya my paw dun ran into a cougar in the summer with maw and the dogs. hoped off his mule to take a shot and the mule dun went up and mauled that kitty to death. mommy got off four pics to!

sure, with a well placed kick, a mule could break bones, bust internal organs, also with the front legs a mule or horse can stomp the crap outta anything
