On your PC do you need The Sims 2 in order to play The Sims 2 Pets?

I want to buy The Sims 2 Pets but Im not sure if I have to buy The Sims 2 first..

its an expansion, so yes.

As an expansion pack for The Sims 2, yes you need to first have The Sims 2 before being able to use The Sims 2 Pets.
Sometimes companies will produce stand-alone expansion packs, which run alone or with the original, but not in this case.
