My bf & I have been using VCF (vaginal contraceptive film) for a few months. It contains 28% nonoynol-9.

It says you must wait @ least 15 minutes after insertion before intercourse which we usually wait 30 minutes to an hour. A few times, especially when I'm on top, he gets a burning feeling. After sex he says his member really hurts and it is painful to urinate. The pain usually subsides within a day.

I have been unable to find anything on the internet that suggests vcf can cause allergic reactions in men - only talks about women.

For those who would suggest either me or my bf have an std, that's not the case at all as we are both clean. He never had this problem when I was on depo or on the pill, just sometimes when we use vcf & usually only when I'm on top.

We definitely will stop using it altogether as I suspect he has a sensitivity to it or an allergy - but I was just curious if anyone else ever had this problem?

P.S. VCF claims is lasts up to 3 hours.

Your BF is reacting to the spermicide in the film, and his complaints are the most common side effects associated with nonoxyconol-9, in both men and women. He wouldn't have had the problem when you were on the pill or Depo because there was nothing to irritate him.
The only thing I could suggest that might be of help would be for him to use a light coat of petroleum jelly on the exposed skin to act as a barrier between the skin and the spermicide, and then wash well as soon afterwards as possible. The chemical is the most commonly used spermicide on the market, and is found in most all the contraceptive gels and foams out there- as well as the condoms that are coated with spermicide. From the sounds of it, though, you might want to explore another form of birth control, because the reaction can get quite ugly after repeated exposure and irritation.

Is he allergic to latex so can not use a condom? Did you are attempting looking yet another form? in keeping with possibility you basically would desire to do some thing diverse, or he could basically get fastened, as i've got faith he ought to pass sterile anyhow if he's having that style of reaction.

Is he allergic to latex so can't use a condom? Did you try finding another brand? Maybe you just need to do something different, or he should just get fixed, as I believe he could go sterile anyways if he's having that kind of reaction.
