It's not that your not SUPPOSED to... it's just recommended you sleep on your left side for max blood flow. Don't worry about it. Sleeping on your back is the only thing you should be weary about when your big enough for it to hurt anything (they say after 4 months or so).

It is supposed to help blood flow. I know people who slept any way they chose and did fine. The whole question will be out of your mind by the sixth month when you don't care how you sleep so long as you can get comfortable!
Even though I would go to sleep on my side I woke up on my back and usually felt most comfortable partially sitting up on my back and I now have a beautiful 3 month old. Birth was a breeze for the most part and I only had one leg cramp my whole pregnancy. Be comfortable and try not to stress.

Blood flow. My Dr. recomended that and not to sleep on my back, however I always would wake up on my back or right side. He said that my body will be bothered by this way before the baby suffers. Hunter was born two months ago, bouncing baby boy!

If you listen to everything you hear about pregnancy, you're never gonna sleep, eat, or move until it's over. Everyone has something different to say about it and blah blah it gets old hearing everyone's opinion. It's obviously very uncomfortable and becomes impossible to sleep on your stomache, I've read that sleeping on your back can cause the uterus to black your airways, but if that happened you'd wake up out of breath, I sleep on my back a lot at almost 40 weeks preg., That leaves your sides, "they" say sleeping on your left side is better than your right because it allows the air to circulate better or something, but my OB always tells my right or left is the same. It's just something they heard. Silly little myths.

Because on your right side there is a passage that stops oxygen and nutriants get to your baby while your sleeping. I mean it doesnt cut it off but it helps them to get to the baby better if you sleep on your right it also helps so you get a good night sleep and you dont need to pee as much. Hope that helped.

Because the main vein through your body is pur under pressure on the right side. When you lay on your left, your circulation is at its maximum and you can deliver a healthy flow of blood and nutrients to your baby and back.
It's all about the blood flow. Not a myth, but a fact. You should also never lay on your back.

It isn't that you're not suppose to it is just that sleeping on your left side is better. Sleeping on your left side allows for maximum blood flow to the fetus and improves kidney function in the mother. It is sleeping on your back/stomach that you should avoid. (When you are in your 2nd trimester)
