It takes 7 or 14 days for the pill to become effective. Pamplets in North America and most of Europe, advise using condoms during the first 7 days of taking the pill while in Austrailia, it is advised during the first two weeks. The 'take it for one month' idea, is actually something that doctors tell women because they think that their patients are too stupid to take the pill at the exact same time everyday for the first month (as in before they are in the habit of taking the pill). I would start taking the pill as soon as possible as it has many more benefits than just contraception such as decreased risks for uterine/ovarian cancers, less pms, controlled and optional periods (you can use the pill to skip your periods and schedule them for when it is convienent) ect.
Even though you are protected from pregnancy almost right away, you should know that it takes about 3 months for your body to adjust to the pill and during those first few months, you may experience quite a few side effects. You might want to start taking the pill now simply to see how you react to it and to find a brand that works for you. This way your wedding won't be ruined by unexpected depression or break through bleeding.

Probably about the same time if you were going to have really wierd (as opposed to regular i.e. normal) sex.
Usually they suggest 3 weeks prior (you also have to take them each day). Some people say 1 month, but the 4th week are (in most cases) Placebos that you use just to keep counting properly. However, after 3 weeks and on the placebos, you will usually have your menstrual period.
Alot of people also do not look at the risks of the pill, such as women over 35 and smokers. Plus if you miss a day or more of the pills, the chance of pregnancy goes up (no stats but possibly dramaticly).
On the good side, if you have acne problems, most BC pills will give you the best skin condition you have had in a while, it can also help stop the homone flux that some women have.
Something to remember also, Pill give no protection from STDs. (I know marriage should mean it doesn't matter)
Good luck with your marriage, wish you the best...

No, they gained't terminate any being pregnant conceived 3 days earlier to starting up the pill. The pills forestall ovulation, they don't provide you with a right away abortion. in case you've been ovulating once you had unprotected sex, you would possibly want to very probable be pregnant. And, if you're pregnant, the birth control hormones could have an detrimental influence on the coming up embryo; fantastically if it really is a male. i'd recommend that you provide up taking your pills till your next era, or till you've determined that you're literally not pregnant. you do not pick to have an unplanned being pregnant first of all, now to not indicate an unplanned being pregnant with a hormonally unusual toddler.

I would start 3 months before so that you know if you can handle the pill...taking it everyday and your bodies reaction to it.
My sis did the patch and it worked really well for her. A friend used nuva ring and really liked that.
Personally, I used an iud, until recently, and I loved not having to worry about forgetting to take it plus no hormone effect. My body hated the hormones.
But the pill does a fantastic job regulating your period. Another thing....decide if you would be happy getting your period every month or every 3 months (seasonale). Hope this helps :)

Alot of people are on the pill without having sex, to regulate periods and such. so there is no reason you can't go on the pill now and be sure it is the contraceptive for you.
Best of luck with your marriage and congratulations.

you'll need to start about one month at least for the pills to all get into your system. but about 3 months is generally the best recommended time and will give you a chance to know your body on the pill and regulate. your period sometimes changes flow so its good to know before hand
good luck!

YOU HAVE NEVER HAD SEX AND YOU WANT TO GET ON THE PILL. FIRST YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR I DONT KNOW IF YOU WILL NEED A PAP SMEAR. USUALLY BEFORE GIVING OUT THE PILL A DOC WILL DO A FULL EXAM AT LEAST I HAVE ALWAYS HAD TO GET ONE. BUT BEING YOU HAVENT HAD SEX THEN I DONT KNOW. WELL ANYWAYS AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE DOC AND GET THE PILL FOLLOW THE DOCS ADVICE IN WHEN TO BEGIN YOUR FIRST PILL. ITS USUALLY THE FIRST SUNDAY AFTER YOUR MENSTAL.

As soon as possible so that can take effect. If you want them to be most effective then you should try and get on the pill ASAP.
