Same sex marriage 'in name' has not been made legal here. However they have issued Civil Partnerships-which is a legal status issued to same-sex couples recognizing their relationship and granting them equal rights and responsibilities to marriage.

In addition to this, there is a domestic partnership law which allows ANY couple, heterosexual or homosexual to declare themselves domestic partners. This is achieved by proving they have lived in the same address for four years.

But for all purposes it really is the same thing to the culture here. I registered my civil partnership with my hubby April 1st this year and we were shown both contracts of marriage and partnership side by side at the registry office-and the document was identical save for the title.

I don't believe that Marriage is, but I think that they have this thing called common law where a couple is together and have the same rights.
