Hello, my wife, Carla, now spends over 90% of her time on the Internet. We have an 8-year-old daughter and I am the only parent that seems to be taking her out and spending time with our little girl. My wife used to be such a part of this. My wife now spends way too much time on the Internet. This Internet habit has withdrew her from our family. I have got to break her of this habit. What should I do? Any suggestions?

Smash the computer to bits. Seriously. Then if she goes out to buy a new one the next day you'll know she has a problem.

I`ve heard of others who have become addicted to the internet.
I think ur going to have to take a firm stand if she is not spending time with ur child. Sit ur wife down and tell her the rules and guidelines of her computer usage. Let her know u mean business, her first priority is ur daughter and she is not to use the computer while ur child is about and awake. Set a time limit as to how long she stays on the internet. Let her know she is not only neglecting ur daughter, but you as well. She must put her priorities in order. husband and daughter first, computer, last. If she cannot control herself, ur other option is getting her to see a therapist for some counseling. What need is that computer fulfilling in her that her family is not. Are u aware of what she is spending so much time doing online ? When does she shop or clean or do laundry ?? All this needs brought to her attention, perhaps she doesn`t even realize how much time she is spending on the computer. Have a good talk with ur wife and I hope things work out for u all.

My wife spends 95% of the time watching the television. I would rather see her on the Internet than CNN or the news station.
When I read the paper, I tell her about the article she replies back to me that is old news, that I need to start watching CNN and other news station.
Too much news will break a marriage just like too much internet, too much sleep, and too much smoking.
If she will not go to counseling or talk to you about it, I do not know what else to tell you. I wish you both the best of luck.

I suspect that the internet is not the problem. There is something else going on, with no other information I suspect depression, but it could be any number of things. The trick is you need to talk to your wife about it and if it is really a problem seek professional help. Not for internet addiction, but see a psychiatrist and therapist to diagnose what is wrong and start treating it.

I agree with the first person. Your wife is using the internet as a means of escapism. . .you need to find out the deeper problem. Good luck.

DEAR FIRST CHECK THAT WHAT SHE DOES ON THE NET

I think if you keep notice of her internet activities. You can try to provide her more than that.

Do She?
Love to read - provide her books
Love to chat - get her to your family & friends

BUT THERE'S A SIMPLE SOLUTION "JUST TALK TO HER ABOUT WHAT YOU FEEL"
