I don't want to encourage lazyness but in addition to analyzing the basic lyrics (you've done that, right?) you could also look at the human need to believe in those lyrics or the human need to create those ideals. i.e. instead of just saying John Lennon wrote about the prospect for, say, a peaceful society, you could look at why we as people may have the need to believe in ideals like peace or to just create ideals even if we do not believe they will ever be realized.
Be creative in this paper. When you've got an open ended question like this about sociological interpretations, you have as much as a right as anybody to find your own take on things.

First, you have misspelled sociological.
Second, how is society reflected in the song? John Lennon is imagining all the people living a certain way, no God or heaven, no Devil or hell, no war, just the here and now existence we all share. He is advocating all people to try to imagine to live in that way. He is hoping more people will imagine that way of living and want to try to live that way too.
He is telling you: IMAGINE all the people. Talk about what he imagines and interpret what you think it means.
What I think it means is that he thinks the world would be a better place if we all lived in the here and now, if we shared more with one another, basic types of more liberal thinking.

There is not much of a hidden meaning in that song. If people let go of all the things that make them feel better then others the world would be a much better place for everyone. Now you just need to take that idea and expand on it.

Think "How do the lyrics in this song relate to people and what is going on with people today and how they act?" I think it's sending a message that we need to preserve the environment and keep the peace, and be kid to one another. Good luck, I know how tough these annoying papers can be. BLECH!

It was used in an episode of "WKRP in Cincinati". Might be a good place to start.
