Perception, or the way the person percieves the facts. Their is no completely objective understanding of anything. Our understanding of something is always coloured by our past experience and our emotions. For example, lets say someone is walking down the street and sees a dog. Lets say that, that person, was attacked by a dog as a child. That person may feel fear and keep their distance from the dog, but in reality the dog may be a friendly dog. Everything is perception, not facts.

At the root of things, the fact itself is what causes sadness. For while it may be the perception of said fact that leads to the sadness, the perception cannot exist without the fact it is based upon.

Perception. So called "facts" are interpreted in a variety of ways by different people. All we have is perception. Even if a fact makes two different people sad, it can still be for different reasons. People who are clinically depressed have been shown to perceive their environment in a different light than those who aren't. It is the meanings attached to facts that lead to the responses to them.

Perception or facts, the decisive factor is what the person wants to feel. It could be sad facts, but if the person chose to ignore them and think nothing of them, he/she could feel good (and not sad). No one can make you happy or sad, unless you allow them to!

What makes you sad directly would be your perception, as it is where you base your judgments on.. But without facts, where is perception?

Well, considering I think the definition of "facts" has become completely twisted, I'd say facts.
Perceptions provide insight, so they make me happy.
Wait, did I read your question wrong? Oh well, I tried.

Perception of the facts is what causes stress on the body and in turn your body responds to that stress by creating chemicals that cause you to take a break from that which is causing stress to your body and in doing so releaving stress and enabling you to see the facts in a less stressfull way.

sadness is a state of mind, the more negative you think the sadder you'll become. thinking positive can only bring happiness, sure, things may not always turn out the way you plan but that does not count as failure, to laugh with others and at yourself is surely a happy conditon of life, think sad and you'll be sad, that I can garuantee.............through expeirience.
