thanks for all you guys help, vince, i did try taking out the battery and putting it back in... it didnt work, im finding that getting around this computers system is too hard for me, i think that im going to just buy windows and load it over the existing system, i should then be able to delete the other one right?

It depends on where in the computer the password is. I have, at times, found that some computers have passwords that need unlocked before the BIOS will ever even look for your OS. If this is the case, what MIGHT work is for you to open the computer, and look on the motherboard for what looks like a large watch or hearing aid battery. Pull it out for a few seconds and reinstall it. If you're lucky, this will reset the BIOS configuration back to the factory defaults and your computer should boot after that.
If the password is in Windows, then I am afraid that you'll probably have to re-install.

Best of luck,
Vince

Go into "Safe Mode" (hit the F8 key repeatedly BEFORE winXP loads) and change the password etc. in control panel>users. If you are still determined to load a new copy of winXP, format your existing drive, that should remove the partion also.

Don't just install over it. To ensure that everything is off of the HD you should delete the existing partitions and reformat (NTFS is best for XP).

If you take it back to where you bought it they can change it out for you and reset it back to where you can put your info. I purchased one from best Buy and had to take it to them to delete their info.

Call the person you bought it from.
