Haven't taught it for a long time but there are heaps of examples.
Can't provide quotes but can give some helpful clues. Make sure you analyse 'fear' as well as 'unknown'
the unknown island - boys not knowing how to behave so go back to what they know (choral drills and movements)
leadership of both groups of boys - the tenderness and democratic approach vs the aggression of the stick boys
the monster - turns out to be a dead airman
killing of the pig - based on here and now of hunger rather than focusing on where to get future food
not much but something to start with

well they didnt know what it was to be without parental control, they didnt know how long they will live, they didnt know if they we ever going to get rescued.
