A vocation is an occupation, either professional or voluntary, that is carried out more for its altruistic benefit than for income, which might be regarded as a secondary aspect of the vocation, however beneficial. Vocations can be seen as fulfilling a psychological or spiritual need for the worker, and the term can also be used to describe any occupation for which a person is specifically gifted, and usually implies that the worker has a form of "calling" for the task. The word "vocation" comes from the Latin vocare, meaning "to call."

In religious words, a vocation is incredibly a "calling" to three particular service. a lot of people have faith that they have been called to become priests or nuns or ministers; it quite is, they experience that some form of voice or beckoning leads them to choose to be of particular service. In non-religious words we use this observe to communicate with the profession to which you has been drawn; e.g., he had a reliable vocation to become a instructor.

It is latin, most of the times you will see it referred to as 'vocare' which means 'to call', however I learned it is 'vocatio' which means 'the calling'.
It is typically meant to be your job or occupation, but as you can see that is far distorted from it's original intent.
