it is not normal at all, BUT it is possible. Some children are very advanced. Nurture it, there is nothing wrong with it just try to keep your child engaged so they don't get bored. That would be a waste.
My son is 25 months old now and doesn't have a large vocabulary, or at least not as much as I have heard he should by now. I have read different places that by 2 years he should have a vocab of 150-200 words and be able to make 2 word sentences. From what I have been keeping track of lately he has a strong vocab of 30 words so far and only has 1 or 2 2 word sentences. I was conflicted the first time he told me "book broke", I was very happy that his vocab was getting better, but I was angry that he had found a book I had put away and shredded it. He talks all the time but for words he is behind, the thing is that he understands a whole lot more than I think he should by now.
Oh ya, plus a few choice words he has so nicely picked up on the city bus. We don't drive so he is on a city bus at least 4 times a week, or walking through the mall since we live blocks from it and the grocery stores are there too.

It's not normal but it IS possible. My daughter is 6 months and has just started suprising me by saying little words/sounds and watching me and trying to repeat. My son never did that until he was about a year old though, so it's definately strange! But I've never heard of a baby saying sentences at 9 months. Maybe something like "Mama Byebye" but other than that I really can't see it happening. I'm sure there's been at least one that actually has though, because really anything is possible, especially if you try to teach them starting when they are really young. Congratulations if this is the case, and good luck!

Waaaay too early. Most babble after 6 mo., no complete sentences til around 2. Some speak much later. I have listed a great web site with month by month develop for babies up to 24 months of age.

My oldest daughter was saying words at six months and could speak sentences at 9 months old, so it is possible. All children develope differently. I think the first born does more things than the following sibilings. She was put in gifted and advanced classes in school.
Hey Cheeries, my second daughter didn`t talk until she was 2, and she hasn`t stopped since. Don`t worry she will start soon.

No, it would be very unusual. Babies are just barely learning to sit up and hold their bottles at six months. Even at nine months it would unusual for a baby to say more than mam, bye-bye or something of that nature.

Not at all. Most babies are speaking their first real words (with meaning) at around one year. Short sentenses can start around 18 months. Compound sentences dont usually start forming till around two years of age.

I have a kid who didn't speak 'til he was 3, and he ended up skipping a grade in the gifted program. He also walked before he crawled, and everyone said he would have trouble reading. Not true. Just do what feels right for your child and don't worry about what is "normal." Happy parenting!

I'm not sure if its normal or not, but I can tell you that my daughter (now in high school) was speaking in short sentences by 8 months. She makes straight A 's in school and never cracks a book it seems.. She was also invited to attend the states Gov. school for Math and Science her last year in high school.. I'm not saying your child is going to be a rocket scientist, but your child just might be gifted... keep your baby interested in learning.
