I am so excited, my son let go and started taking steps today! He'll do about 6 before he gets wobbly and falls down. It's adorable! He's 9 1/2 months old. My sister was walking his down the hall, letting him walk and she was holding him under the arms, and she let go to see what he would do. He stood there for a minute, and then took three little steps and fell down. After some coaxing, he did it again, and now he will go from one person to another, or from say, the chair to the coffee table on his own.
I want to hear about everyone else's babies, and when they took their first steps. Does anyone have any cute or funny stories they'd like to share?

My son didn't start walking until 16 months old, but by that time he was talking real well, and was ahead on his mental skills, so the docs said that he was working more on that then on his walking, but eventually he took off...... my story isn't really funny but I think it is cute.. When my son was starting to walk, he would stand up next to our dog and grab on to her collar and she would lead him around until he fell. Then he would get back up and do it again..... That dog is still his best friend.. She goes everywhere with him and sleeps in his bean bag chair next to his bed........

Oh what a wonderful moment in mommy and daddy's life!! There is no accomplishment that is as thrilling as walking!!! My oldest daughter took her first "real" steps at 12 months. I have a 9 month old that is going to be taking hers any day now. Exciting, exciting!!!
I don't really have a funny story....just that my oldest daughter was so shocked by her first real steps that she refused to walk at all the following day. She took about five steps before she realized momma wasn't holding on to her anymore. Then she got all freaked out, fell down, and refused to even walk with me supporting her. A day went by.....and she was pulling up on the wall and taking off. All help from momma was refused from that point on....I guess she didn't like the whole "letting go" thing. However, she was more than happy to make me her "home plate".
Have fun with this....and don't forget the pictures and the video!!!

my son was between 12 and 13 months old, same as his mommy. He had been cruising around his playpen for weeks but wouldn't walk without holding onto furnature. We went to my mom's for either a visit or for dinner and he just took off walking. At her apt the kitchen/living room and dinning rooms are all one big room with a wall dividing the galley kitchen from the living room. Gabe's playpen was in the living room going towards the dinning room. He walked a bit holding onto the playpen, but he kept going. He took about 15 steps including making a great corner all without falling. The only reason he stopped at that was because we grabbed him and started hugging him and kissing him because we were all happy. His 15 step trek took him from the living room through the dinning room and down the length of the kitchen before he was tackled. He did the same thing with crawling though, he was about 8-9 months old when he started crawling, yes I know he is a late bloomer physically. Again he waited to try this new thing out at someone else's home. We had gone to a friend's house swimming that summer and after swimming we were just up in the apt relaxing and talking and off he goes, at least that time my friend was taping it, she had been recording his first swim in a pool that afternoon. What a busy day of firsts.

I have 5 children and they varied. The earliest was at 9 months and the latest was at 11 months. It all depends on the personality of the child as well as the encourgement of those around the child. I also think it has a lot to do with the child's order be it oldest, middle or youngest. But no matter when they walk it is exciting and amazing for both the infant and the parent.

My daughter took her first steps between 9.5 and 10 months. At first she would just take a couple steps from the couch to me or her dad and then one day she just kept on going. Before she started walking I kept telling people that I could not wait for her to start walking so I would not have to carry her that much anymore(she weighs 21lbs)cause I am 29 weeks pregant and then when she took her first steps I cried and everyone laughed at me.Now that she can walk we can't get her to hold still or stay in one spot for more then a couple seconds.

My daughter took her first steps when she was 8 months old. My husband set a cookie down on the chair so he could get some milk and my daughter pulled her self up on the coffee table and took 5 steps towards to cookies. She didn't give up until she got to that cookie lol. Your life really brightens up when you say your baby take there first steps. It sure did for me.
And, I hope all goes well with you and your son. Time to really baby pruff the house lol.
Best of luck to you!

Take your baby for a daily walk in the evening once for at least 10-15 mins., and once in the morning. Then he will be able to walk with in 10 months surely.
This is sure because the same is the case with me.Dont put him in the walker for hoursas people do in the USA.
Leave him free to walk, jump and play. Then the child will be active and starts walking quickly!

I've heard the average age is anywhere between 9 and 18 months, so to not get discouraged if your baby walks on the later end. My boy is 12 months old and is still not walking. He likes to cruise around furniture and push his walk toy like a maniac, but he's still too cautious to go it alone. Congratulations!

My son was 10 months when he started walking by himself. I have a niece though who started walking at 8.5 months. Her sister is 7 months now and climbs up and stands on just about anything she can. I think it will only be a matter of weeks before she is walking around.
