Unless you edit before your user name or password or else the default settings is like that.
Go to your Basic Wireless Settings and you'll found Wireless Network Name (SSID) column. On there you can edit your SSID.

If you're using Windows XP you can double click on the wireless icon in the taskbar and then click on the "View wireless Networks" button, you should see the available wireless SSIDs there to choose from.
If you really want and expanded details about the wirless networks in your area get NetStumbler (http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/)

have you logged into your router yet? it should have came with a CD to walk you through the install. Once you log into your router, usually by opening a browswer and entering 192.168.1.1 and logging in with "admin" as the user name and "password" as the password you can setup the name of the SSID
