Consider the Arch and how prevalent it is throughout the world in architecture. It's one of the strongest forms for support and weight distribution.

i live in yuma az. we have a giant dome house here that a large family lives in . kinda like heres gramas little apt. heres mine, and theres yours. there is still a big common area to be shared. the guy that lives there said that they only need half of the air conditioning that the same size regular housewould have.Type "Dome house in Yuma Arizona" in your computer and see what happens. Hows that for an answer? Pretty cool!

They're cool. Not in a temperature way. I grew up in Northern CA, where these were very popular. They're roomy, usually a big living area instead of lots of little rooms, and a tall ceiling and lofts. It's great fun when you're a kid.
I think they're also cheap and (in some cases) portable.

They are strong.
That's about it! They're hard to build, hard to cool/heat because of large internal area, etc. But they strong! Strong as heck! You could build one out of.... uhm... cardboard!
