How do characters, setting, conflict, and symbolism contribute to the theme--Fear of the unknown??

The theme is clouded by an irony. Humans fears the unknown, but what you should really fear of is right in front of your face. the island made the situation seemed hopeless, secluded & confining. the kids are the best choice of characters coz they suitly represents innocence. then the conflict arised when that innocence is lost- superiority arises.
Terrorism has the same effect. it's what most nations fear most nowadays. but the real evil is just around us. the fear that we're unsafe due to an unseen/untouchable force distracts us to see the real enemies around us.
