The concept of a sovereign State (as defined in the 1883 Treaty of Peace) ended and with it the power of a State to secede.
The Republican Party came to power.
Clearly the institution of slavery ended.
As stated by another answer, technically this was not a civil war. This was a war of conquest of, the North invading the South.

A verb change : Before the Civil War one could say that the United States " are " after the War it changed to the United States "is ". For all intents and purposes the idea of states rights died at Appomattox. Sure we still try to practice it, But it really isn't a viable entity.
The first high tech war. Machines made the weapons, moved arms, men and material and allowed communications with distant battlefields in almost real time.
The end of the age of sail- 35 years after the War ended steel hull battleships-Dreadnoughts ruled the seas
The settling of the West because of the Homestead Act of 1862. After the War many veterans migrated west and used the Act to make a new life for themselves and their families.

Are you talking US or Britain or..?
If you are talking American War Between the States (they were two different countries made up of individual states, so not actually a Civil War, that would have been the same country fighting each other), that could take f o r e v e r to discuss. One consequence was the freedom to leave the Union was permenantly revoked.

1. Lincoln , the first Republican Pres. in US history, could be labelled a " HAWK " (pro-war), a label still used today
2. The " INDUSTRIAL AGE " jumped into full swing , with the need of guns , ammo, cannons , etc.
3. Cloth imports from France and other countries were increased , due to the need of Confederate uniforms . Guns were also imported .

the country had to go through reconstruction, the south was a wreck and needed to be reinduced into the union. The union gave certain penalties to the south. what the others have said, but dont use wikipedia, anyone can post on it and its not an academically reliable source. Use it to find ideas maybe but not to find sources when writing your paper.

1) The decimation of the southern economy leading to restoration
